Seattle's most prolific self-styled superhero has ended up in handcuffs.

Police have arrested a man aged 23, who calls himself Phoenix Jones early Sunday after allegedly assaulting several people with pepper spray. He was detained in the county jail on four counts of assault, with the entire indictment Thursday, police said.

Jones, who wears a mask of black with yellow stripes and a body, said he was only trying to stop a street brawl.

"Just because you wear the costume does not mean that the special examination or above the law. You can not go around pepper spraying people because they think they are fighting, "said Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson detective.

Jones wrote on his Facebook page in case he would not "ever assault or hurt another person if they do not cause harm to another human being." He has also published a video says it was filmed during the alleged assault.

The video shows often fragile Jones and his sidekick, known as Ghost, running toward a group of people. Jones said there was a fight in the group, but police said there was no sign of one.

Recording continues showing

Jones break the group. Then a woman screams and hit them with high heels. Jones appears to be holding his pepper spray cartridge. Moments later a BMW car appears and speeds away on the street, almost hitting an unidentified man. Jones chases after the car to get the license plate number. A person with Jones is heard calling police to report a hit-and-run.

Two men in the group approach Jones, who, according to you, pepper spray.

Jones has been the most public face of a vigilante group Crime Stoppers show in Seattle in recent years. His exploits have attracted media attention, and had a camera crew behind him in recent months.
Peter Tangen, a volunteer spokesman for Jones, said Monday that the police had no interest in the alleged hit-and-run, but they have a crime fighter hidden agenda.

Students lift car off Utah biker after fiery crash (AP)

In this Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 image taken from video, a group of people tilt a burning BMW up to free Brandon Wright, on his back on the ground, who was pinned underneath after he collided with the car while riding his motorcycle on U.S. 89 in Logan, Utah. Authorities said Wright was riding his motorcycle near the Utah State University campus in Logan when the 21-year-old collided with the BMW that was pulling out of a parking lot. Tire and skid marks on the highway indicate that Wright laid the bike down and slid along the road before colliding with the car, Assistant Police Chief Jeff Curtis said. (AP Photo/Chris Garff)
