Professor Behind Two Chatbots Chatting Discusses What Happened

is an interesting conversation, but the only thing that really caught my attention was the question of whether the robots are not "understand" what they said. The obvious answer is "no, of course, are only robots", but Lipson has made an interesting point: sometimes it is not clear that real people know what they say. Many people just repeat what I heard elsewhere - it's like Cleverbot is supposed to work. He also noted that this is indeed how children learn to speak and
